Your virtual server will be placed on a Dell PowerEdge server. These servers have at least 24 GB memory, two quad core CPU's of at least 1.86 Ghz and are linked to the FirstServed SAN through gigabit connections. The data is stored on the FirstServed SAN. Your data is stored on a complete redundant built Storage Area Network with de-doubled controllers, power supplies and multiple disks in RAID setup.
FirstServed takes great care in balancing the underlying hardware platforms for your virtual server. We aim for a constant delivery of quality and reliability.

You can file a request for more diskspace or additional memory through our support staff. An employee will make you a price quote for the configuration changes you require.

You may ask an additional IP address for your virtual server through a support request. A virtual server comes by default with a minimum of one public routable IP address.

Your virtual server is backed up every night to a seperate backup volume on the FirstServed Storage Arean Network (SAN) system.

You can ask for a restore up to five days back in time. FirstServed always makes a backup of the entire virtual server file system.

You can decide for yourself which applications are installed on your virtual server. You will have complete access by default to your virtual server through SSH (Secure Shell) for Linux servers or Remote Desktop for Windows servers.

By default, your virtual server does not come with a Service Level Agreement and is inherent to the standard support we offer for our shared hosting (webspace) customers. As every FirstServed customer you may consult our excellent support desk, both by phone or through e-mail.

Is is possible to get a Standard Service Level Agreement (Standard SLA) for virtual servers at an additional cost per month. If you require more guarantees we suggest you to take a look at our VMware hosting solutions.
Can I manage my virtual server through SSH or Remote Desktop?

Can I manage my virtual server through SSH or Remote Desktop?

You will have complete administrative access to your server. For Linux servers you will have access through SSH (Secure Shell), for Windows machines you can establish a connection through Remote Desktop (Terminal Services).

Due to security considerations you must create a secured VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection with the FirstServed network before you may access your virtual server.

What is the difference between virtual private server hosting and VMware hosting?

Virtual servers in the Virtual Private Server hosting program by FirstServed are always installed on one hardware machine and can not take advantage of important services such as high-availaibility, load balancing, snapshots and more.
These virtual servers also come without a Service Level Agreement (it is an option).

The virtual server is located between shared hosting solutions and dedicated server hosting solutions. VMware server hosting is located above dedicated hosting when it comes to scalability, availability and performance.

You may ask to migrate your virtual server to the VMware server hosting platform, of course at an additional cost. Your virtual server can then be installed into the FirstServed Cloud Computing Platform and enjoy all the benefits of VMware hosting, including Service Level Agreements.
